Their reasoning behind it was cars are getting so fast today that to post the time would just mean another manufacturer risking a driver’s life to topple their time around the ‘Ring. It’s a difficult time to fathom, a time under 7 minutes. It takes a loony driver to be able to push the limits of a car and set a time like that. It takes decades of practice and talent to be able to do what they best do, and they get paid to prove how crazy they are every time their helmets is strapped on. I’m waiting until I improve my suspension and brakes before I head up onto the track.

From personal experience, I now recommend upgrading in this order:
Brake pads, brake fluid and stainless steel brake lines TOGETHER all before the first ever track day. Next is tires. Next is safety via seats, harness, roll bars... also deal with any heat issues since you’d naturally be getting faster and starting to tax the car more (upgrade radiator if needed, add brake ducts etc). Next is sway bars depending on the car/handling characteristics. Then coil-overs. The very last thing for a HPDE car is power bolt ons. Aero doesn’t come into play at all unless it’s competitive wheel-2-wheel racing with a legit race car build with rules that allow it.

Suppose the grip limit of your car with your current suspension and tires is 50mph around x corner. With the addition of those modifications, setup properly, that limitation can be raised by X amount. Losing control of a car at a higher speed means you must react faster. It’s overall just better to understand what the car’s limits are from the factory before adding parts that raise the capability and make it harder to figure out where that limit is.
